A letter from Jordan

Here is a letter from Jordan. I will have to get better at posting them. :)


Hi family, how are you all??? We get to call home next Sunday for mother's day so I will call at around 1pm, if you have church then email me back and tell me what time I can call. This week was pretty adventurous, Never a dull moment in missionary work! We were teaching one of our investigators outside on a bench and we noticed alot of smoke so we ran over and there was a big fire!! I guess someone left a cigarette outside and it caught their couch on fire. The flames were higher than the apartment it was crazy. So we ran into her house and threw buckets of water onto the fire until the firemen got there. I forgot my camera again but next week maybe I will remember :/. Anyway the people who lived in the apartment were happy with us. And then last night we were stopped at a stoplight and a guy hit us at an estimated speed of 35-40 mph which totaled our car and the car in front of us. Got some cool pictures of that as well. The trunk was smashed right up to the back seat where I was sitting. We are all fine, It happened so fast I just remember hearing a squeal from the guys brakes and then I closed my eyes as glass flew everywhere. Thankfully they make the glass in a special way so it shatters really easily and doesnt cut too bad. Elder Jackson and Fryhoff have some whiplash and sore backs so the hospital was happy to prescribe lots of muscle relaxers and pain meds. They are pretty doped up right now but I'm fine, I don't have any whiplash or anything. We were wearing our seatbelts but we have some awesome guardian angels!! I had to get out of the other door because mine was busted in and I had glass in my shoes and hair haha. The guy who hit us was DUI or diabetic, I heard both from the policewoman but he wasn't in good shape. Right when we got hit an LDS off duty cop ran up because the guy who hit us was still pushing down the accelerator because he was in shock or something. So he jumped in the car and put the emergency brake on. He apologized later for the language he used trying to get the guy to turn off the car. He was like staring straight forward with his hands on the steering wheel shaking, blood on his neck and chest. I hope he's ok, an ambulance took him away on a stretcher. I think we are getting a new car today. The zone leaders were going to drive us to the mission office to get a truck but someone let the air out of their tires last night. So we have some Elders in our district driving us around right now until we can get a new car. Thanks for your prayers! They definetly are working. We had some cardboard "Armor of God" in the trunk that we liked to use for object lessons with kids. This time it got put into real use! We have some really awesome investigators right now, they are really receptive and keep committments which is awesome. We are trying to find an apartment for Candy to move into that is close to her work and doesnt have a male occupant so she can be baptized. Enrique has to work every Sunday so he can't go to church but he's way solid. He reads his Book of Mormon and asks great questions. Missionary work is way awesome! My spanish is improving, I can understand more of what the natives are saying. A new law got passed down here so that police can arrest suspected illegals and deport them. Our investigators were afraid to go to the temple tours at Gila Valley because they didn't wan't to go through any checkpoints. What will we do if all the spanish people get deported or move? I really don't want to be an english missionary. English people are like opposite of the Hispanics. But next transfer is the cuttoff of what mission I will be in. I could go to the New mexico mission. But I have to go , have a great week, love you! Elder Doughty

Broken Camera :(

Yep, that's right. I broke my camera. It fell on our hard wood floor by the front door, and the lens cracked. :( I think this is my 3rd camera in the last year\year and a half... Until I am motivated enough to save for another one, there won't be too many pictures. :\ I really need to get better at keeping my cameras in good shape. But, there isn't too much going on now, just the normal crazy Doughty life. Ali had another horse show and did awesome. (All the pictures are on my broken camera) Jordan is doing awesome on his mission, and his letters are hilarious. He is like a whole new person! Well, so long everyone, pictures will come soon!! (hopefully)

Mom's 44 Birthday!

Happy birthday mommy!! We love you!!! Her birthday was so much fun, even though she had a mis-carriage. For her cake, since she doesn't eat sugar, (or almost anything else) we made her a rawsome pie. It was DELICIOUS!! It was made out of strawberries, cranberries, apples, and a little bit of lemon juice, cinnamon and vanilla. The crust is made up of dates, walnuts and a little bit of vanilla and cinnamon. You don't even have to cook it!

Mis-carriage

Yes, Becky had a mis-carriage. It came as a surprise and a big shock. We found out on her birthday!!! (Some birthday present, right?) Around 5 she started bleeding. She went and saw a mid-wife around 6:30, and there wasn't a heart beat. We lost the baby. She was around 11 weeks along. We all cried that night, but tried our best to be optimistic. We know that our baby is still up there, it just wasn't the right time to come down. God has promised us a baby, and all we can do is trust in Him. There is a quote that says "Trusting in God means trusting also in His timing." One of my mom's responses to the mis-carriage is; "It's like climbing a HUGE mountain, you have bloody feet, you are exhausted, and you can ALMOST see the top. You are starting to get hopeful because you are soo close. Just a little bit longer before you reach the top. And then someone comes up and tells you that you climbed the wrong moutain, and that you have to start all over. It is just over whelming!" But we trust in God. He does everything for a purpose. Our ward and friends have helped us SO much. We love them so much. Thanks everyone for your support. Don't worry our baby will make it here someday!!!

Ali's Recital

I did her hair in 20 minutes before the recital. I think it turned out pretty good!!

Ali had a recital last weekend, and she did AWESOME!!! She played a duet with her teacher Cathy Ford, and a piece on her own. She is getting sooo good at the piano, and if I'm not careful she might pass me up!! haha. We were all sad that mom was out of town for it, but we weren't sad about the part were we all got ice cream after ;) Great Job Ali!!! You did amazing!!!

Jordan in MTC

Jordan has been gone since December 30th, and we miss him, but we definitely enjoy getting his letters. He has changed SO much!! It's almost like he is a new person. He is really enjoying learning spanish and the other day wrote us a letter entirely in spanish. It is so fun to hear his funny stories. He is really enjoying himself...

He was supposed to go out into the field on tuesday, but he got pnemonia, and is stuck at the MTC for another week. (Or until he is feeling better) He went to go see a doctor, and the doctor gave him antibiotics, but instead of taking them, he went home and threw them away. (Yay Jordan!! You are definitely a Doughty....) He instead just drank water. He went back in, and the doctor said he was doing SO much better!! Jordan just smiled.... (No, he never told the doctor that he threw the anitbiotics away... ;))



"The food is good here I think I eat too much, I eat like 3-4 plates of salad every day alongside the main entree. Its simply too delicious to not eat everything in sight." He is loving all the food, and is being well fed. We miss him so much, but it makes it all the more special to get letters from him.

New Baby!! :)

We are all SO excited!! Mom and Dad have wanted another baby for almost 7 years!! Mom gets really sick, but she says it is worth it. She is 1 month along, and says that the morning sickness will start any day now.
